So Much To Choose From!
We also provide full-day tours. There is so much to see and so little time. If you wish to take a full day tour you have a vast selection of sites and places to visit. You can choose from a list of possibilities so that you get to see the things that interest you most. Alternatively we can choose a selection for you. The half-day tour takes in a great portion of Dublin’s rich history and heritage but there is so much more to see and do.
There are a few of the available possibilities below although the list is by no means exhaustive so if you have a particular interest or passion we can customise a tour to suit your needs.
A selection of possibilities for a private tour of Dublin.
- Kilmainham Gaol: An excellent place to visit. Open from 1796 to 1924 this prison housed many famous revolutionaries from five different rebellions. The place has a dark history but the period of history the tour charts and the personalities it remembers is a most fascinating one. One of our favourite sites but a tour takes about 1.5 hours and it can be a cold place. Worth thinking about.
- National Museum of Ireland (Archaeology): Charts the history of Ireland from 7000BC on. See magnificent finds like the Tara Brooch, The Ardagh Chalice and the Derrynaflan Hoard. Great artefacts from all the different ages along with exhibitions on Viking and Medieval Ireland.
- The Custom House and the Marino Casino: Two magnificent examples of Georgian architecture that are a little of the beaten track. One is the largest and most impressive public building in Dublin. The other is a beautiful house built in a most unusual style by the 1st Earl of Charlemont. Casino means ‘small house’ but the inside is deceptively large with 16 rooms in all.
- Malahide Castle: Set in the seaside village of Malahide among beautiful parkland. Malahide itself is a fine place but the castle brings you back in time to see how the great aristocratic families lived in Ireland. The grounds contain the enormous Fry Model Railway and Tara’s Palace Dolls House also.
- The Phoenix Park and Dublin Zoo: The Phoenix Park is the largest enclosed park in Europe. It is so big it has roaming deer herds! Contained within is Aras an Uachtaran, the home of the Irish president and the American ambassadors residence. Dublin Zoo has been extended with land donated by the President. A very popular family attraction.
- Guinness Storehouse: One of Dublin’s most popular attractions but one of the most expensive. Includes a pint in the Gravity bar at the top of the building. Has a great panoramic view of the city. The tour charts the history of Guinness, the finest substance known to mankind. The shop sells some excellent Guinness memorabilia.
- The Old Jameson Distillery: Across the river from the Guinness Brewery. Here you can see how the famous Irish whiskey or ‘uisce beatha’ (water of life) is made and have a small sample.
- The National Art Gallery, The Hugh Lane Gallery, The Irish Museum of Modern Art among many.
- Docklands: Dublin is all about the past but you can take a tour of our newest redeveloped inner-city areas. Transforming the decaying docklands into a vibrant commercial and urban centre. A nice antidote to all those ancient sites.
- James Joyce Museum, James Joyce House of the Dead, James Joyce Centre: The museum is housed in a Martello tower while the house is where Joyce set his piece ‘The Dead’ and where John Huston shot the film adaptation.
- Dublin Writers Museum and National Library: Both dedicated to helping you explore the great literary heritage of Ireland and the writers thereof.
- The GAA Museum and Croke Park Stadium: See the impressive home of Gaelic sports and visit their museum to learn about the history of the Gaelic Athletic Association and our native sports.
- Marsh’s Library: Next door to St Patrick’s Cathedral. Ireland’s first public library. Built in 1701 and still with the original shelves and books. Small but excellent, especially if you like old books obviously.
- Howth: Many people visit Dublin and do not realise our proximity to the sea. Howth is a quaint fishing port in north Dublin that has some magnificent views from Howth Head and some of the freshest, finest seafood to be found.
This is just an example of what can be found. A thousand years of history gives many opportunities for interesting things to see. On your private and personal tour of Dublin you can choose an itinerary that suits your interests and needs.
